Oh my goodness it's that time of year again. Where does the time go to? Do you think time really goes faster as you get older?

The wood pile is growing.

This is Martha she is so cute and very nosey. I found her chasing the sparrows away from her food this morning. She is the smallest so I suppose bossing the sparrows made her feel bigger.

Roof tiles make great seed trays, the girls can eat all at once. Still no eggs though.
Lesson 2 don't get in a flap (sorry couldn't resist) about bedtime.  Chickens unlike kids are very good at going to bed. They just look up at the darkening sky and put themselves to bed. The funny thing is Martha is the smallest and the bottom of the pecking order, but she is the one who decides when it's bed time.  She goes in first and gets right in the corner then the others just pile in on top of her. They do spread out later cos I peeped in to see.

Lesson number one... if you are late putting your chooks to bed be prepared to search the fig trees.  This is where we found the girls. It's a good job we did put them in because there was a dreadful storm last night. They just clung on to my hand like a parrot when I got them down. We're having lots of fun with them.

Well my girls have finally arrived. I can't stop watching them. At first they stayed in their little hut then when they came out they just stood looking around. But soon found the grain we put out. They have already decided the pecking order, the one with  the little bit of black on her tail is definitely the boss.  It will be a few weeks before we get any eggs though they are only young. Pullets my mum called them. I can't wait to have our very own yummy eggies.

I love the feel of them they are so soft and cuddly.
